The BYS Monster Mash evaluations are LIVE 🎃🔥
TPT scouts were in the gym for Bring Your Squad’s Monster Mash, and SoCal showed up. The event featured a deep mix of grassroots programs, including AAO, SLA, ISO Elite, TDF, Cali Gold, Trojan Elite, Pasadena Tar Heels, IBA, In My Bag, So Cal Snipers and Worthy Girls Elite, with talent spread from 5th grade all the way up through the 2030 class.
A few themes stood out across the weekend. Guard play was the story: crafty, high-IQ ball handlers who can create off the dribble and make the right read. Shooting was another, with several prospects who changed how defenses had to guard them the moment they crossed half court. And AAO stood out as a program, placing five players on our list.
By the Numbers
- 20 standouts evaluated
- AAO: 5 players | SLA: 3 | ISO Elite, TDF, Cali Gold: 2 each
- Classes represented: 2030 through 2034
- Tallest standouts: Samuel Acosta (6’2), Isaiah Newburn (6’1), Tyler Southard (6’1)
Free Preview: 2 Standouts
Isaiah Newburn | 2031 | F | 6’1 | AAO

Newburn was one of the most physically impressive players in the building. An explosive wing at 6’1, he’s at his best getting downhill, where his burst and body make him a tough cover for anyone his age. What separates him is that he brings the same energy on the other end. He’s a true lockdown defender who takes pride in his matchup. When defenders sag off to take away his drive, he can make them pay from three.
Strengths: Explosiveness, on-ball defense, downhill attacking, floor-spacing
Projection: A modern two-way wing. As his perimeter shot becomes more consistent, he has the profile of a player college coaches will want to track in the 2031 class.
Honor Tyler | G | 5’9 | SLA

Tyler might have been the most polished scorer we saw. He has great quickness but doesn’t play at one speed. He uses it in bursts to catch defenders off guard. His hang dribble lets him read the defense before he makes his move, and he picks his spots in the midrange extremely well. He’s a great shooter with good body control finishing around defenders, and he already shows an advanced feel for manipulating defenders in space to get the exact shot he wants.
Strengths: Change of pace, midrange game, shooting, body control
Projection: A natural scoring guard with a mature, controlled game. Expanding his range consistently to three will make him extremely difficult to guard.
